Table Of content
Stainless steel 304 flange, often known as 18-8, is an austenitic stainless steel that includes at least 18 percent chromium and a minimum of 8% nickel. The chemical composition of these elements makes the stainless steel 304 steel flanges extremely resistant to corrosion along with making them easy to weld and form. However, pitting and crevice corrosion may take place in environments rich in chloride. Stainless steel 304 flanges have good resistance to oxidation in applications that require intermittent service up to 870°C and continuous service up to 925°C. It is due to these properties that stainless steel 304 flanges are the most widely used stainless steel flanges. Stainless steel 304 flanges are commonly used in industries like Breweries, dairy, food, and pharmaceutical production.
Stainless Steel 304L flange has comparatively less carbon than its stainless steel 304 counterpart. It provides excellent resistance to corrosion, pitting, and crevice at extreme temperatures of approximately 870 degrees C. Since its composition is lower in carbon, it can be welded with ease even in highly corrosive environments. It is recommended to use stainless steel 304L in applications that require continuous use at 425°C-860°C due to its resistance to carbide precipitation.
Stainless Steel 304H flange has a higher concentration of carbon in its composition and can be used in the fabrication of pipe fittings. This austenitic Stainless Steel alloy offers great properties such as high tensile strength, high yield strength, and excellent creep-rupture properties. It has good forming and deep drawing qualities. It is recommended to use stainless steel 304H flanges in applications where high strength is required in temperatures above 500°C and below 800°C. Stainless steel 304H flanges will retain aqueous corrosion resistance.
