Table Of content
The composition of Duplex Steel Pipe Fittings contains both ferrite and austenite. Duplex Stainless Steel solidifies from a liquid phase to a totally ferritic structure when melted. Approximately half of the material converts to an austenitic structure as it cools. As a result, the alloy has a microstructure that is around 50% austenite and 50% ferrite. Duplex alloys are tougher than ferritic alloys and have higher strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance than most austenitic alloys, especially at low temperatures. There are typically additional advantages to using Duplex Steel Pipe Fittings. Duplex grades have a higher thermal conductivity than austenitic equivalent grades due to their lower nickel content. To do the same task, less heat transfer surface area is required. Rapid cooling following heating to roughly 1100°C can be used for solution treatment or annealing.
Duplex Steel Pipe Fittings are used in a wide range of applications such as Chemical processes, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical, Geothermal, Sea Water, Water Desalination, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), Biomass, Mining, Utilities, Nuclear Power, Solar Power, etc.
What material is used for duplex pipe fitting?
Duplex pipe fittings are commonly made from a family of stainless steel alloys known as duplex stainless steels. These alloys contain a mixture of austenite and ferrite phases in roughly equal proportions, providing high strength and corrosion resistance. Common duplex stainless steel grades used for pipe fittings include S31803 and S32205. These materials are used in various applications where resistance to corrosion and stress corrosion cracking is critical, such as in chemical processing, oil and gas, and marine industries.
What are the classification of duplex pipe fittings?
Duplex pipe fittings are categorized according to their form, size, and purpose. In addition to elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, and couplings, they also come in many other shapes. According on the technique used to attach them to the pipe, these fittings can be classified as either butt-welded or socket-welded. Socket-welded fittings are coupled with a socket or coupling, whereas butt-welded fittings are welded directly to the pipe. The maximum pressure that duplex pipe fittings are rated to take in a particular application allows for another classification of duplex pipe fittings. The type of end connection, the temperature range, and the composition of the material may also be utilized to categorize duplex pipe fittings
How do you connect Duplex steel pipe fittings?
The two primary procedures for joining duplex steel pipe fittings are butt and socket welding. Butt-welding involves welding the fitting directly to the pipe by heating both the fitting and the pipe to their melting points and allowing them to fuse. Socket welding, conversely, involves fitting the pipe into a socket or coupling and welding it in place. Both methods require careful preparation of the welded surfaces and strict adherence to welding parameters to ensure a strong, leak-free joint.
