Traditional austenitic stainless steels with chromium and nickel, such as 304, are less resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion than 316 alloys. At temperatures over around 500 °C, Grade 316H has a better strength at increased temperatures and is often utilized for structural and pressure-containing applications. Stainless Steel 316 in critical process applications where the temperature sensor is not practically environmentally safe, Thermowell preserves and enhances the sensor’s life. Thermowells, which are installed directly into piping systems, make sensor replacement easier in high-pressure pipes and avoid the need to halt the overall process or drain the system for sensor maintenance. Gauge Syphons are used to shield pressure gauges from the effects of hot pressure media like steam, as well as to lessen the impact of sudden pressure surges. Condensate forms and collects inside the syphon tub, preventing hot media from coming into direct contact with the pressure sensor. When used with the right fill fluids, it can also act as a freeze protector.
