SMO 254 Instrumentation Fittings have molybdenum and nitrogen added in their composition. SMO 254 Instrumentation Fittings have enhanced corrosion resistance due to the addition of these elements. SMO 254 Instrumentation Fittings can also withstand pitting and stress corrosion cracking in harsh environments. This is because of the added chromium and molybdenum. The strength of SMO 254 Instrumentation Fittings is almost double that of other stainless steel 300-grade instrumentation fittings. Due to the high amounts of nitrogen, molybdenum and chromium in their alloy, SMO 254 Instrumentation Fittings are usually used in environments rich in chloride. SMO 254 Instrumentation fittings are more resistant to pure sulphuric acid than ASTM TP316. SMO 254 Instrumentation Fittings outperforms Stainless Steel 904L Instrumentation Fittings in naturally aerated sulphuric acid including chloride ions. They are used in a wide variety of applications such as Equipment for the handling of seawater, such as seawater cooling, cooling water pipes, ballast water systems, firefighting systems, Hydraulic and instrumentation tubing, Equipment in pulp bleaching plants, Components in gas cleaning systems, Tanks and pipelines for chemicals with high halide contents, etc.
