Alloy 20 Valves are made of a low-carbon alloy. Its alloy is stabilized with nobium. It has added molybdenum and copper in its alloy. These Alloy 20 Valves exhibit excellent resistance to corrosion. The nobium enhances its corrosion resistance and intergranular corrosion resistance.  Alloy 20 is an austenitic, iron-based alloy with exceptional corrosion resistance in a variety of environments. These include environments rich in nitric acid, chlorides, phosphoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Alloy 20 Valves display good mechanical properties at both high and low temperatures. Due to the high nickel content, Alloy 20 Valves show good resistance to stress cracking in chloride-rich environments. Alloy 20 Valves are also resistant to crevice corrosion and pitting. Alloy 20 forged fittings may be more cost-effective while outperforming conventional stainless steels when compared to higher Nickel-based forged fittings. Applications are limited to a maximum temperature of 530 degrees celsius, according to ASME. It’s also important to determine whether the desired corrosion resistance can be achieved in the given environment.

Common applications of Alloy 20 Valves are in sulphuric, phosphoric and nitric acid environments. The alloy is also commonly used in the food industry for the manufacture of food preservatives (phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorus trichloride).
