This property, combined with the alloy’s resistance to oxidizing and carburizing atmospheres, makes it ideal for long-term, high-stress use at high temperatures.
Inconel 617 forged fittings are used in components such as ducting and combustion cans, in both aircraft, and land-based gas turbines. Because of its resistance to high-temperature corrosion, the alloy is used for catalyst-grid supports in the production of nitric acid, heat-treating baskets, and for reduction boats in the refining of molybdenum. They are also used for components of power-generating plants, both fossil-fueled and nuclear.
